Since the first Waldorf school opened in 1919, 620 schools in 45
countries worldwide now bloom from that first planted seed in Stuttgart,
Germany. In fact, it has become the largest and fastest-growing independent,
private educational philosophy in the world.
As
educational practices and theories come and go, more and more parents
are increasingly drawn to Waldorf's traditional principles and fundamental
skills. Grounded in a deep respect and appreciation for the experience
of childhood, Waldorf protects children's imaginations, their innate
curiosity and their wonderment of the world, while also providing them
with the knowledge and skills to make their mark in that world.
Waldorf allows a child to be a child, receiving new information and
concepts gradually, and on many levels: visually, aurally and tactually.
Since they are intimately engaged in the learning process, the lessons
take on deeper meaning. Adults who attended Waldorf schools often are
the leaders in their communities, the voice of reason in a disagreement,
and the individuals who have the moral fortitude to make wise decisions.
