From Principal Cindy Roe
Thank you Mountain Oak Community for the warm welcome. The students
have been generous with their smiles and hellos. It is a pleasure
getting to know the students, families, faculty and board. There
is a warm, open-hearted feeling at Mt. Oak and I am honored to
be a part of it.
On behalf of Mt. Oak Community I would like to thank, Beni Garcia,
Martha Jensen and Jon Meade for attending to all the vital responsibilities
that kept Mt. Oak smoothly operating throughout the summer and
into the new school year. Martha and Jon worked on a volunteer
basis with other board members and faculty to assure that all
the needs were met and addressed. Hats off to all of you! Thank
you.
Talent abounds in the teachers who have chosen Mt. Oak as the
school where they give the gift of unfolding the wonders of the
world. In getting to know all the teachers at Mt. Oak these past
two weeks, including specialty teachers and assistants, I know
they all hold love in their hearts for children and are dedicated
to an education that is filled with life and creativity. We are
lucky to have them.
Welcome to Laura Urquhart, Mt. Oak’s new Special Ed Director.
Welcome to David Sorenson, Maureen Smiley and Doug Fulker new
music teachers. Welcome to Kate Liedel, Emily Ducat and Melinda
McCarter in Kindercare and Aftercare. It takes a team to make
it all work.
We are happy to welcome the new families joining Mt. Oak this
year. This is a school of choice and we are glad you chose it.
A new school year brings new opportunities for the community.
I am looking forward to the year that lies before us. Working
together for the benefit of the children is a binding factor for
the community. May it be a fruitful and satisfying year.
Saturday September 16th
9am - 11:30am
An Event For Parents Only
involving fun, the future and knowledge.
The fun part is making a dragon drum for your child, (no matter
what the age ) the knowledge part is learning more about what the
Festival of Strength and Courage represents and the future part
is a giving you information that will further enhance Mt. Oaks funding
through the state. Please begin planning for this day by obtaining
a large coffee can with the plastic lid and larger scraps of cloth.
The place of this fun event will be announced in next weeks Tuesday,
so keep watching.
Aftercare is Available to All Mountain Oak Students!
I am excited to be welcomed into the Mountain Oak community as
the new director of Aftercare. In order to promote safety and
clear communication I have developed a few new rules this year.
Parents can sign their child up for “intermittent days”
in Aftercare and call by 2 pm the day-of to register their child
for the program that day. Parents may find it more convenient
to sign their child up on a regular schedule, though it is still
their responsibility to call by 2 pm the day-of if their child
will not be attending (see “Enrollment Form”, located
in Aftercare or in the office). Either way, I am willing and able
to work with parents’ specific needs, just come and talk
to me or call the Aftercare line at 541-0017. Aftercare is still
$4/hr, now collected in half-hour increments of $2, and we still
utilize a pre-payment system.
Kindercare is also available between 12 and 3 pm for Kindergartners.
We have 3 spaces to fill and are now accepting Kindergartners
on a regular schedule, between one and five days per week.
Even if you choose not to utilize Aftercare regularly, it would
be wise to fill out a Blue Emergency Card, located in Aftercare
or in the office. This way, if something comes up to prevent you
from arrived for pick-up at 3 PM, your child can be accepted into
Aftercare and will not have to wait in the office. It is illegal
for Aftercare to accept students if we do not have their Blue
Emergency Card. We would love to welcome your child into the program,
so please help us by filling out the necessary paperwork!
Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns.
Sincerely, Kate Liedel

To wonder at beauty,
Stand guard over truth,
Look up to the noble,
Resolve on the good:
This leadeth us truly,
To purpose in living,
To right in our doing,
To peace in our feeling,
To light in our thinking;
And teaches us trust,
In the working of Creation,
In all that there is,
In the width of the world,
In the depths of the soul.
