Mountain Oak Public Charter School has been in existence for five years. During this time, MOCS has achieved an academic excellence which meets and exceeds Arizona state standards. With over 1,800 public schools in the state of Arizona, MOCS is ranked in the top 25% academically. Parent's who send their children to MOCS are extremely happy with the Waldorf methods approach and curriculum which serves their children.
The heart of the MOCS Waldorf curriculum is the belief that education is an art. Whether the subject be arithmetic or history or physics, the presentation must live. It must speak to the child's experience. To educate the whole child, the heart and will must be reached, as well as the mind. The Waldorf educational methods utilized at MOCS include an interdisciplinary, multisensory curriculum, the integration of the arts, site-based management, active learning and the sciences taught experientially.
Because the Waldorf method and material speak directly to the child's changing consciousness as it unfolds, optimal learning can take place. At MOCS, Waldorf education cultivates imagination and creativity as well as cognitive growth. As aforementioned, this also translates into high academic achievement. Mountain Oak Waldorf School strives to awaken and nurture a student's capacity for wonder, gratitude, and responsibility, thereby helping young people discover within themselves the strength, enthusiam and wisdom to become creative shapers of society, rather than passive onlookers. Mountain Oak Charter School serves all children and families, as well as special education needs.

A Snowy Day

Oh, I do love a snowy day. Sometimes the snowflakes are big, sometimes the snowflakes are small. Soft, white, quiet, silent snow. You can even see the shapes of the snowflakes; because it melts right when you touch it! Everything is white, white trees, white houses, it blankets the ground like a white quilt. The snow tastes like everything delicious in the world, soft white snow. It makes you feel cold, but it also makes you feel happy, gay and wonderful at the same time. It looks like little angels floating down, down to the ground.

SCHOOL NEWS

THANK YOU!

To the few, the proud, the Angel workers that showed up Saturday, Feb. 21st for school clean-up. Working side by side with fellow parents is not only a great experience but also another opportunity to strengthen our community! If you missed this clean-up , don’t ya worry none, we will do it again in the Spring!! The school looks great!!! Way to go Mountain Oak!!

P.S. Many hands make light work and we had a few hands on this important clean-up day, which reminds me of the story of The Little Red Hen….please read it on the next page and reflect on its meaning and how we are or are not teaching our children through our own examples of helping or not helping grow a strong, mighty Mountain Oak School!
