MAY DAY

The background to the drama of human existence is the changing scenery of the earth's season's. Winter changes to spring, spring to summer, summer to autumn in much the same way each year. Their magical transformations can be relied upon but the wonder of the magic never grows stale with repetition. Spring has come before, it will come again, but their is a particular note, a subtle effluence, a shade of feeling in this spring that has never been quite the same before and which will haunt the expectation of next spring, though it will not be realized again. A particular season can be lost to one's experience if, in the midst of the pleasure in finding again its well-known, often repeated character, the heart does not catch the inner quality that can only be apprehended this once...there is, amidst the familiar joys, the thrill of the unrepeatable element, that makes each season in its own year an event of a lifetime, if only one is awake enough not to miss it.

Celebrating the first day of May is one of the magical transformations in the cycle of the year. May Day was in ancient tradition the celebration of the beginning of summer or Beltaine in Celtic lands, and by Roman tradition sacred to Flora, the goddess of Spring. The May Queen is still representative of Flora, or Persephone, her Greek counterpart. The Maypole itself represents the tree of life and fertility. May Day is very much a day of celebrating flowers. In many places, children leave May Day baskets, filled with flowers at the door of a loved one, early in the morning on the first of May. After placing the basket by the door, one rings the bell or knocks and then runs off, leaving the bearer's identity a mystery. In France, it is considered good luck to wear the gift of the lillies-of-the-valley, for it is said one's wishes may even come true.

This year, as Spring unlocks the flowers to paint the laughing soil, be sure to make those heart felt wishes during this season of the year, this event of a lifetime.

IDEA CORNER

Every once in a while we receive ideas from parents to add features to the “Tuesday”, here is one of our most recent:

"Submitting something to the Tuesday? When submitting items that have contact referrals, please make sure that submissions include contact information i.e. phone #, email address, etc. (bold) in addition to contact names. This makes it much easier for the community to contact you! Thanks MOS Parent, Brandy Meade”

Loving Home Needed

We are relocating to Vietnam and cannot take our dog, Jackson, with us. He is a shepherd-mix, approximately 3 years old. Jackson is very affectionate and active. We are looking for an active person/family that loves the outdoors and has a lot of love to offer. Jackson loves to hike, run, swim, and most of all cuddle.

If you are interested or know anyone who could benefit from the love of a loyal companion, please call Hoa Holz at 443-7635
